Momentous restoration moment! - engine and trans are back in!
Been a long time coming and couldn't have done it without you guys. Special thanks to Rainmaker Ron for letting me borrow his legit engine hoist while hes at Hershy!
Got the engine and trans assembly in the frame tonight. Went rather easy I thought. Had tools ready to go, parts all ready laid out and accounted for, triple checked orientation of clamshell and inner bowl pieces since 28/29 have those 2 holes that are slightly offset.
Learned there is such a thing as entirely too much grease - creates like a playdoh factory effect when you try to mate the U joint to dual high...
other than that it went pretty smooth! everything just kinda glided into place thanks to the tip of greasing the motor mounts.
Had enough light left to even put some brake rods and dual high pedal parts onto the frame.
preparation - notice entirely too much grease in ujoint housing?
up and away! no wooden A frame and come along this time:p 2 straps did the lifting, 3rd was a backup/safety. test lifted several times making adjustments to get it tilted back a few degrees. worked like a charm.
bolted down, hoist removed
the test comes back true, crank fit right in perfectly.
with some other brake rods and dual high pedal installed.
overall shot
Shes come along way:
thanks again!
now to install the steering stuff!

now all thast left to get running frame is install the rebuilt steering box, attach reballed pitman arm and drag link, put battery tray in, and mount radiator to give it a test,
then its locating some sheetmetal, really need the long splash aprons as thats gotta go on first. I got one useable running board that needs repair but solid, dont have any easily repairable front fenders, nor rear fenders. Then the cab needs complete restoration wood and all, good solid starting point tho...

Looks good. It is good to see the truck is coming back to life. It is a great moment when you bolt on a sheet of plywood put a cut down lawn chair on it and take it for the first drive. Just dont forget to bolt down the chair. Good luck with rest of the resteration and keep us up to date.

i found really nice long splash aprons at rootlieb. you will find them on internet. i had them made out of 18 gauge which seemed closer to original versus the 20 gauge they offer now. nice quality, reasonable shipping. hope this helps. hey do you know the purpose of the tab on the first clamshell cover behing transmission, the top half of the cast iron cover. my 28 has a notch even cut in cross member to accept this. thanks again for great photos. kevin in ct.

Ive heard that about the gauge metal thickness, how do they fit up against factory ford parts? Im not against using repo parts by any means but i want the fit to be correct.
No i dont know the purpose of the tab, my only guess was some kind of support but it doesn't actually touch anything...

I am glad you are bringing this old girl back to life. I bought my AA over 30 years ago and it should have been taken straight to a the scrap heap; I spent 3 times what it is worth bringing it back, but wouldn't trade it for the world now. I love taking mine to car shows and our local Model A club meetings. I applaud your efforts!

in regards to the splash aprons. i lined them up with my originals. they seem to be exact including holes. i am at a similar stage of re assembly. what will you put on the back?? hope all is well, kevin in ct

Now would anyone have a measurement of a 29 AA with stock tires from ground to top of cab? im worried about garage door height...

Mine looks to be 80" tall, give or take. Fits fine in my standard garage.
