Ford AA anti brake rattle springs

Post by birdacre »

i ordered a set of brake rod anti rattlers. two different sizes came. solid holes on bottom for rod to slide through. the few original pieces i have on my truck have a notch to lift the rod up and insert. very different from having to thread the rod through. does anyone have a photo of the correct pieces and location on a late 28 aa. thank you, kevin

I just took a photo of the right side on my January 29. Hope that it helps.

The Ford name for these springs is "Brake Rod Spring". They were a return spring. The Judging Standards has a picture of the different designs and lists the usage date.

Birdie, just go here, you'll be glad you did:
http://www.mafca.com/pub_standards.html
As it says, this should be the FIRST book in every Model A (and AA) owner's library.
Timing is right to put it on your wish list to Santa.

Kevin,
The Judging Standards is a printed document only. It can be purchased at either national club sites such as provided by ModelAkid.

There is going to be another release (I think in the next few months). The release will include a replacement of supplement E (Heavy Commercial). A 114 page document has been released to the Editor for the E supplement. I hope to see the document after the Editor is done.
Regards, Neil Wilson

thank you all for insight. the photo helps. the notch in the photo is what i speak of. the new ones that arrived have just holes. to all the aa folks out there, question, what style do you have? or a mix and match? seems they would both work equally effective, any opinions. thanks in advance, kevin

Birdie, Ford used 6 different types of brake rod springs. The slotted type was only used for 5 months in 1928. The Model A parts dealers usually only sell 2 types (flat steel or wire type). See Judging Standards chapter 7 p. 8.
