cab assembly

Post by justmemachine »

hi hope all had a nice thanksgiving. lots to be thankful for in this land of ours.
anyway I have a ? maybe someone can help me with. I have a 1929 82-A the chassis is all done runs and drives thanks to a lot of help
from people on this site. and now its time to put the cab back together but when I got this thing it was all in pieces and I need some step by step
info, on how to assembly it. I have all the new wood top to bottom for it and most of the body work is done I just need to know where to start, final paint will be done after assembly of the cab. thank you for your time.

What state are you in? Best way is probably to drive over and see a assembled cab, talk to the restorer and take some pictures back to develope your assembly plan.

82-A Closed Cab

Post by Neil Wilson »

There are some pictures which might help at http://abarnyard.com/temp/82-a/. They were mostly taken to show the restoration of the roof. But they may give you some information on the finished assembly.

The general sequence (as I remember) is:

The lock pillar needs to be installed before the rear corner sheet metal. The rear center and rear corner sheet metal is next. I would install the doors and make sure the door belt moulding aligns with the rear quarter panel belt moulding before installation of any roof wood.

The roof side headers is next followed by the front and rear roof headers. And, finally, the roof bows. The cab must be square before any roof wood is tightened down.
Regards, Neil Wilson

FWIW
Its my understanding there is about a 10 page section in the Les Andrews Vol II that covers the 82-A cab assembly.
On my list of books to get!
