speedometer cable

Post by Tomjo »

Please forgive me, but I hope I am doing this right. First post. I am looking for a new speedometer cable for my 1929 AA. Mac's no longer carries nor allows backorders. Where is the best place to get a replacement cable? Thanks

make sure to lube the new cable. Also make sure that your speedometer is clean and turns REALLY free( mine froze up and snapped the new cable.

Thank you for that macwoods. My speedometer is original, so it may be a problem. I may splurge and get a new speedometer as well.

Have your original rebuilt. I had mine done by a gent that goes by Papanick on the Ford Barn forum. His email is jrnichols642@yahoo.com
Did very good work. Lots of folks use his services and I haven't heard any negatives about him.

The A model speed-o-meter is easy to rebuild. They are simple to take apart. I bought an oval speed-o-meter at a swap market at the sleep-train arena about 3 yrs. ago here in Sacramento. All of face was missing for $5.00. Someone had tried to rebuild it, never put the gears back in right, it would not go together and turn the speed-o-meter dial. I took it apart and seen the problem, properly put it back together and turned freely. The numbers can b hard to get to match up so be careful. Best way to rebuild one if you have no experience is to take a lot of pictures. us a good lubricant. After ordering new numbers and this how it turned out :!: :) :D Shelby , Sacramento.

Mac, To the best of my knowledge There is a retainer or screw that holds the main drive. It's been three yrs. seems you have to go through a different way check that way as an option. Shelby
