preload on the bearings
preload on the bearings
On the early worm drive rear is there any preload on the bearings or do you just tighten everything up. If there is a preload could you help me through the process Thanks Billy

Re: preload on the bearings
I didn't see any way to set a pre-load on the ones I've had apart.

Ya not alot of fine tuning, just make sure everything I assembled correctly, seated correctly, and most importantly has fluid in it.

Re: preload on the bearings
The only spec I've found, and that was in the Model T Service Bulletins, was for the "TT" worm drive. It said the worm drive shaft should not be assembled unless there is from .006 to .015 clearance between the washer and bearing. I'd probably install the rear cap and check the front-back end play at the front of the worm drive shaft.
