I am trying to take apart the 4 speed transmission tower. How are the shift selector rods supposed to come out? They slide back and forth easily when shifting, but when I try to drive them all the way out they don't want to come. Scared to use a big hammer! The fork is loose from the shaft/rod.

Any schematics available? Thanks

Finally got shifter rods out of the tower. Attached is a picture of the 3rd/4th gear rod with a movable pin in it. Is this correct?

Yes, there should be two interlock pins there too. Maybe they are still stuck in the tower housing. These are to keep the transmission from getting locked in two gears at once. Watch if you're switching parts around from different top covers. In February 1930 the length of the interlock pins were increased and the notches in the shift rails were deeper. The longer interlock pins were marked with a identification groove. (Service Bulletin February 1930).

Thanks, Keith. Found something else interesting. I got the three springs and ball bearings out and noticed that one of the springs is a little thinner and longer than the other two. Is this correct or was one replaced at some time? Could a weak spring allow the transmission to pop out of gear?

The parts book shows the three springs the same.

Thanks Keith & Bob. I'm kind of flying blind. I don't have much literature/schematics for the AA. Noticed that you referenced a parts book. Is there somewhere I can get one of those?

You can get the parts books from any of the vendors, Amazon or Ebay. I would get both
the 1931 and the 1937 as the 37 has very good parts drawings.
