29 rear hub bearing grease

Post by njcar757 »

There is a grease fitting on the back side of the 29 axle, it looks like it only greases the axle shaft OD and the axle housing ID.
If this is true then would be a good idea to drill and tap a hole for a grease fitting in the hub between the studs where there is a hollow spot?
thanks nick c

yea not one of henrys better ideas, the idea is the inner axle seal is supposed to prevent grease from going down that way so it backs up and squishes into the wheel bearing. Best just to remove the drums every few thousand miles and repack by hand. It takes just about a 1 lb can to pack each side if they are dry btw.

I like to use Mystic JT6 red stuff - extra stringy and clingy. Farm stores seem to carry it.
