28 AA worm drive rear castle nut washer
28 AA worm drive rear castle nut washer
does anyone know why the flat washer that goes on before REAR castle nut is so thick? it also had the hole in the middle offset? must be a reason. I am missing one and have a thick washer on one side. not anywhere near as thick as the original. maybe the big washer was to overcome sideway thrust? now i am worried the standard washer will not work. does anyone have an extra washer that i speak of ???

I think the one for the axle for a 1928-29 is A-22421 29/32" (3/16"x1 7/8").

Re: 28 AA worm drive rear castle nut washer
The axle nut washer was a special hardened washer to withstand the side thrust placed on it. A standard washer could possibly dish out, leaving the wheel hub get loose on the axle and work on the axle key. I read somewhere that they recommend to retighten the axle nuts at 500 miles to keep the hubs tight on the axle to prevent wear and failure. Using the correct washers are cheaper than replacing an axle and hub. Some Model A suppliers sell the correct hardened washers.
