Ford Dragtraktor

Post by 731132 »

Hello from Sweden!

I just recently rescued one of the rare Ford Dragtraktor manufactured here in Sweden by Ford Motor Company after WW2. Dragtraktor is Swedish and mean Pulling tractor.
They were build with leftover parts from the pre war truck and car parts, mostly Ford model AA and BB. Circa 40 was made during 1946/47.

Mine has a Ford model A/AA engine, two Ford model AA 4 speed gearboxes and an AA front and rear axle. The engine, gearboxes and rear axle are mounted directly together without any driveshafts.

My plan is to renovate it to it's original condition again. Part for the engine and drive line is no problem. But I am missing a few parts that I hope you can help me identify so I know what to search for. I am still new to Ford model AA's so I am not good at identifying year and model of parts.

These rear wheels I have not seen on any Ford model AA before, are they a type that was used? They are 18 inch

The steering wheel is also a questionmark, it have had wood spokes and a metal ring for the wheel itself, it is also something I have not seen on a model AA?

Finaly, I'm missing a front fender, it is a 1928/29 or a 1930/31 model?

Hope you can help me, and I hope my English is understandably, it is not my first language.

Regards, Magnus.

Magnus,
First I must compliment on your ability to get these photos onto the forum. You are far better at it than I am. I would be very interested in finding out how those transmissions and rear differential are attached together. Any pictures or service manual diagrams or other information on how Ford connected them together would be appreciated.
Also, your English is just fine; I often have trouble with it and it is my native language.
Thanks,
Dave

birdacre:
Thank you for enjoying my post, and nice to here you have some old Swedish Volvo 140's to drive. Good cars that can serve you well for many, many miles.

Bob C:
Thank you for your help with the link and picture of the Ford model AA 18 inch wheel. But I do not think it is the same type of wheel I have though. The center of my wheel around the bolt circle have a bigger flat area than the the one in the picture, and the link states that the ford 18 inch wheel only have one larger hole in the wheel, mine have two on the opposite sides.

Dave:
Thank you for you kind words. Nice to hear you are interested in how the transmission is connected together. I do not have any pictures of the connections at the moment, but I will take some the next time I drive to the farm and post them here!

Regards,
Magnus

Here are some pictures of how the gearboxes and rear axle are connected to each other.
I am sorry for the bad pictures, it was with a mobile phone in very sunny weather, but I hope you can see a little of how they are connected. I will take some new ones as soon as I get in in the garage and cleaned up a bit.
