The Mitchell is called a gear splitter not an 'overdrive' by the manufacturer. You would have with a 4 speed in front, essentially 8 forward gears and 2 reverse gears. You can shift into 'Mitchell' with the Ford transmission in any gear you like. So, yes, you can leave the Mitchell in low range and ignore it.
Low is direct drive and High is overdrive.

I have a "utili TT" over / under drive unit. Anyone have any experiences with one? Three position shift. Straight thru, 50% under drive, and overdrive. It was bolted onto the front end of a '30 style worm drive rear end. All straight cut gears in it. Any input is appreciated.
