transmission output spline search

Greetings AA'ers,

I'm rebuilding the 4 sp transmission for my '31. I've found a supplier for all parts I need except what I'm calling the output driveshaft spline. It's the internally and externally splined gear on the outside of the transmission that becomes the male spline into the female spline of the 18 inch coupler driveshaft.

What is this spline called and where do I buy one?

Greg

Coupling shaft male gear AA-4811. Have to look for a good used one.

Thanks Bob. My coupling shaft male gear has the teeth worn down on the output side half, with the portion of the teeth closest to the transmission apparently untouched. If the gear were new, would the entire gear look like the half that is closest to the transmission, or is the gear supposed to be "stepped down" like mine is?

Also, what is the name of the female coupling gear that is on the coupling shaft? I'm assuming with the amount of wear on the male part, the female part is also worn. Is there a supplier for this part?

Last question: If I can't find a suitable used gear in time, does anyone have experience with having a worn gear built up by a welder/machinist?

Greg

AA-4811 coupling shaft male gear is shown below. AA-4815-B coupling shaft includes the gear which mates with AA-4811 (see below).

Neil,
Thank you for sending me the pictures of both the male and female splines. My parts show signs of significant wear, with thin teeth on each of the splines.

Does anyone out there know where to buy these parts, or a machine shop that would return my parts to original?

Greg

You might be able to find a service replacement coupling shaft with the u-joint at both ends.

I suggest that you place a want ad on this forum. Be sure to indicate which wheel base you have.
