Tolerance for u-joint

I have been trying in vain to find a replacement for my 6-10 spline u-joint for a 29 AA. It seems to have a lot of side to side play but now I'm wondering if that may be normal, or close enough. It slides 3/16". Is that perhaps within operating specs? Thanks, Bob

well ideally there should be no detectable play by hand in the rotational direction - if you notice the spider actually has flat spots to allow grease to get into it.

Wait you mean holding one yoke and SLIDING it you have 3/16? But in the rotational direction its tight? If so that's normal on all the ones I have.

Sliding side to side is OK.

Wow, great. Thank you both. I'm glad I asked. One side is perfect then and the other side is only slightly loose. I just need to find a thrust bearing then and I'll be able to put the back end back together with the new torque tube and rods provided by Stakebed (thanks again Tom)
