Close up view of rusted gear. Wondering if it would be considered usable?

Assuming the bearings don't look like that, there are no missing or broken teeth and you don't intend to drive it every day it might last for years, I would think that it would be a bit noisy, generate some heat at tear up your pinion.
I had some splines silver soldered and recut on a final drive (motorcycle) and they're still in good shape several thousands of miles later, a simple matter compared to the set up on a spiral bevel gear (might as well make a new one at that point) but maybe some file work would suffice along with the solder.(I really don't know)
Either way it would be an interesting experiment though a lot of work.

It looks like a ring gear to me.

Kinda what I was thinking. High speed ring gear.
