Steering column bracket

Post by KyCliff »

I need some help as to just what I should do.... I'm rebuilding a '29 Model AA and the bracket that holds the steering column to the underside of the dash/gas tank is broken. Only the piece that is riveted to the gas tank is still there. Can I weld something to this piece to make a bracket? I haven't tried welding but it looks like it's some kind of cast material? It appears to me that the rivets go into the gas tank so it would be hard to drill out and put a new one on ?
If needed I'll try to post a picture of what I have to work with.

Thanks for any help

Those clamps are available from every supplier and at every swap meet you can go to. Pretty easy fix. If it was mine I would convert to the late 31 column drop and avoid the gas tank altogether.

Either a picture or a better explanation is needed. The part which is attached to the gas tank is still there? So, the only thing wrong is that you are missing the part which fits under the column?

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner Neil,
The bracket had been broken off flush with the edge of the gas tank and the steering column had been wired to the bolts along the upper dash to hold it up... Only the small flat part that was riveted to the gas tank remained. I'm not going for a perfect restoration so will try using the newer bracket from Snyders.
Thanks for the comeback
