Rear fenders

This is probably a dumb question but can pickup rear fenders be used for the AA truck? I think the truck wheels are slightly bigger in diameter but in diameter but wondering if they would still clear the wheels. My truck is a mixture of years so I am more after function than anything. Original rear truck fenders seem to be very scarce and what is out there must be gold plated considering the price of these! Failing this, if anyone has any really beat up rear fenders they want to give away, then please let me know!

Thanks

Jeff

Your profile shows you have a 1929 with an 82-A cab. This does not indicate the cargo body type where the rear fenders are to be attached to?????? The short answer is "NO" - pickup rear fenders will not fit to the 1929 panel delivery, platform, or express body types.

Thanks Neil, thought that would be the case. Yes my cab and frame are 29 but rear end is 30/31 along with a mix of other parts parts. The bed will just be a platform type so I can probably adapt anything to fit. Sorry, I am probably offending all the purists out there!

Do you even need / want rear fenders on a platform truck? I don't have any and no one ever mentions it.

Thought it would reduce the water and mud flinging off the wheels. Most of my use will be on gravel roads.

They won't fit as is.............however with a bit of imagination and some old beat up rear fenders anything could be made to fit.

i have two beat up ones. 6 inches missing from each rear. a tear in the top. they could be squared off, tear welded and have a nice radius and maybe 75 percent of the original fender. if you are interested i will send you photos and we can see what you think they would be worth to you?

Hey Jeff,
I was thinking the same thing on my 29 AA flatbed truck restoration.
I ended up using the stainless steel from a modern conversion van spare tire cover. The radius was too tight, but I was able to stretch the flanges with a hammer and dolly to match the 20" tire radius. I made my own brackets and painted the whole works satin black. They blend in nicely and keep dirt off the bottom of my flatbed. Most people do not even notice them. Not original for the purists, but functional for driving. They can always be removed.

Ive also noticed the flatbed tow trucks generally have rear fenders and those are rather large (and wide but can always trim em down) tire diameters.
