Syncro 4 speed

Post by Chris Haynes »

I was wondering if anyone had been able to install a '40's T98 4 speed in a AA?

I looked in the parts book and the syncro trans uses the same gasket between the clutch housing and the
trans as the AA so it should at least bolt up.

The T98 appears to be about an inch longer and has open drive line. I was looking for a way to convert it to closed drive line. Cheating the engine forward about an inch shouldn't be a major problem.

I am also looking for a Ford T98. I found one but it is from an international. Different input shaft length.

Go to an open drive. Most of them I have seen were in dump trucks.

The first one you picture is not a T98, I don't believe the second one is either. My AA has a Warford.

I was just trying to show you the open drive line. If you want syncros and the Warford why not go with a 1939 3-speed trans?
The first picture is an S-10 5-speed and a 2-speed Watson in my long wheel base AA.

Because the '39 3 speed doesn't have compound low. Plus the '39 doesn't have the pedal mounts.

"Plus the '39 doesn't have the pedal mounts." And the T98 does?

Yes. The T98 will use the AA four speed bell housing.

The AA pedals mount to the transmission case not the bell housing .
