AA piston ring question

Post by rugb »

I’m rebuilding an engine for a ‘29 AA Ford and running into something maybe someone else has?? Bored to .100 over and am finish honing to fit the pistons. Don’t have rings yet so going to order them. What I am finding out is the ring grooves aren’t as deep as the original pistons. These are .166” and the original are like .218”. So contacting Hasting they say their rings won’t fit. I don’t know much about these .100 over pistons except they are NOS with a brand of Hy-Duty (HP Corp) and number 4-101P.
Does anyone have a set of new rings that they could measure the depth? Trying a used ring from an old piston that was originally in this engine, it fits in the groove of my new piston with plenty of depth. Of course there is wear on the used ring. Thanks for your help

You can re-cut the pistons to fit different rings. Just don't go too deep.
