aluminum timing gear side cover

Post by RustydoubleA »

I have this AA truck engine with an aluminum timing gear side cover. I have collected 4 or 5 more of these covers over the years, in a box somewhere in my shop; lost forever. Anyone know what the intent of these are? Are they Ford or are they an aftermarket device? The only thing that makes any sense to me is that it would cool oil that the timing gear throws on it.
