Rear axle gear sets

Post by David R. »

Would I be correct in assuming that the 5.14 and 6.6 gear sets would be interchangeable in the bevel gear rear ends? Just wondering.
I have a spare axle with the 6.6 gears and was thinking if it is better shape I might try swapping gear sets.

Those gear sets are interchangeable. A change in gear ratio requires a change in the speedometer drive and driven gears also (if you want the speedometer to be accurate). At an engine rpm of 2350, the 6.6:1 ratio will be about 10 mph slower. See https://aafords.com/aa-information/#mph
