Rim Shell for 20 inch Tires
Has anyone done away with the lock ring on their rims by moving a slotted wheel center to a modern drop rim? (Tried searching on Rim but ran into the 'Must be more that 3 chars rule'.)

Re: Rim Shell for 20 inch Tires
Someone posted on here about doing that but it looked pretty costly. I decided after doing a couple mounts on split rims myself, that as long as I could find enough good rims and wheels to stay original. Once you get a full understanding of the precautions needed the mounting is very easy. You could do the whole job with your bare hands, except I used a hardwood block and hammer to make sure the ring was fully seated before putting in air. The necessary item is a remote air hose set up so you are nowhere near the ring as it is inflated. You can find some good videos on the net. They all recommend a cage and I had a local shop offer to give me one, but don’t have room for it. I did loop a cable through the wheel slots and around tire just in case.
