REAR VIEW MIRRORS

Post by xelhan »

I'm trying to find some time typical outside rear view mirrors for my 1930 AA Truck.
I want them large enough so I can focus on surrounding traffic and when reversing.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

You can look at https://aafords.com/aa-body-types/body-details/mirrors/ for information regarding original side view mirrors for the AA's. Original is likely not what you are looking for.

I've looked at the original mirrors that were available, but they are too small and I think that's a safety issue. I drive my truck frequently and would feel much more secure on the road being able to see the cars around. In addition, I can't turn my head like I could when I was young :?
I think I would like a rectangular mirror sitting vertical. Not a West Coast type, but with one arm only and in size approx. 6"x10". The bed is 10" wider per side than the body, but if you mount them high I don't think the arm has to be very long.

I have the same problem with my dump truck, the tiny original style mirror just doesn’t cut it out on the highways and backing it around, let us know if you find something that works!

Check out JimCartertruckparts.com, they have 5 1/2”x 7 1/2” mirror heads that may bolt up to the original AA mirror arms

I found this mirror locally. It's 6x10 and adjustable in any direction.

The big knob can be replaced with a bolt.

Are the Ford mirror brackets being reproduced?

"Are the Ford mirror brackets being reproduced?"

Not that I know of. There was a guy that posted 2 years ago that he had a couple that he had
reproduced for sale, don't know if he sold them. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6080&p=35281&hilit=mirror#p35281

Is someone in a position to 3D scan a 10-3/8" bracket?

I think it would be an easy thing to make a mirror bracket like AA-17697-B. Machine a tapered rod and weld on the fittings in each end and this bracket will fit the 6x10 mirror I suggested.

this is not original, But works for me. Note, has red shrink rap so I do not run my face into it. Won't work on your 30. Make a hinge mount ,what I did for passenger door.

Aren't the original brackets cast iron? Simple enough to make a mold or pattern and cast them. All it takes is an original to copy and a bit of ambition.

That's what I had in mind and asked "Is someone in a position to 3D scan a 10-3/8" bracket?" The ambition is always there but no bracket to copy.

It struck me that a marine stanchion would be the perfect rod. Just make the hinge mount, weld it on and you'll have a beautiful bracket.
