connecting shaft/Speedometer drive gear
I am looking for some technical advice and perhaps a parts source. I have a 1931 AA 131 wheelbase stake body truck. I have damaged three speedometer driven gears over the past several years. I jacked up the back of the truck and had someone look at the drive gear on the shaft as it was rotated. There is about 1/16" of up and down movement in the shaft. I believe that this is damaging the driven gear.
I have seen a diagram of the standard Model A and there is a barrel bearing and a bushing that I assume keeps the shaft aligned and tight. Are these similar type parts used on the AA? Does anyone have a diagram of this section of the driveshaft? I believe if I remove the play in that shaft, it will solve the damage issue with the speedometer driven gear. Any suggestions????

Re: connecting shaft/Speedometer drive gear
I think you are right, the bearing or shaft is worn.

Re: connecting shaft/Speedometer drive gear
Thank you so much for the diagram and information. I assume that the shaft is long out of production and, if the shaft is worn, it will have to be replaced with a good used one. If I am correct, the bearing and bushing basic number is 4645 and 4655 respectively. Based on that, the part for the AA should be AA-4645 and AA-4655. Are these parts available anywhere?

The parts show up on Ebay once in a great while. You might try Bert's https://modelastore.com/
or Fred at Southside Obsolete http://www.southsideobsolete.com/Souths ... lcome.html
He is on the Early V8 section of Ford Barn as Barnfind08, deals mostly in early V8 parts but I've got some AA parts from him.

Re: connecting shaft/Speedometer drive gear
Thank you for the help. I found the bearing at Smith and Jones Antique Auto Parts. However, they do not list the race or sleeve. I will continue the search. Thanks again

False alarm, Smith and Jones list the part but do not have it. Back to the drawing board. Thanks

The ones on Ebay are for cars, they have the wrong prefix for the part number.

Re: connecting shaft/Speedometer drive gear
I found the race at Burt's Model A in Colorado but they do not have the bearing. They have the race listed as BB-4645. I did check and found that there is a corresponding BB-4655-A2 bearing. Is that a correct replacement? Was the BB-4655-A2 a superseded part number for the AA-4655?

Re: connecting shaft/Speedometer drive gear
BB bearing and sleeve wont work as the BB driveshaft is larger diameter than the AA.

Yes!! I have the bearing and race. Now I have to figure out if I am skilled enough to remove and replace the old bearing and race.
