1931 Torque Tube Assembly

Hi All,
I was told by a local restoration shop that my 1931 torque tube does not use the the snap ring shown in the picture (#17286) (the picture is for 1932-1934 trucks).
I have a groove for the ring on the drive shaft so it seems to me that it should be there.
Does anyone have this snap ring available for sale; or am I wrong for looking to install it on my truck?
Thanks
Dave

I looked at a couple of axles and they both had the snap ring.
The part number is AA-17286-B speedometer drive gear retainer 1 1/4" dia. 1930-31.
