Bushing Fit Question

Hi All,

Looking for some opinions on my rear spring pivot bushing.

The new bushing is very loose where I can slide it in and out by hand.

It was suggested to me to use Loctite to hold it in place, but I am reasonably sure that the forces generated on this part will cause it to shift and then the grease hole would not line up.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks
Dave

(I know it's shiny, it is actually a 60% semi-gloss)

Use a sharp punch and peen the inside of the pivot to make more of an interference fit. Rough up the outside of the bushing with some emery cloth and then use Loctite 638 when you assemble it.

I would use Loctite 609 bearing mount, suppose to fill gap up to .010".

Just what is the O.D. vs the I.D? Knurl the id and od then Loctite it.
Or you can always drill a couple of small holes through both and pin it... Either way it should be fine.

Hi All,

Thanks for the advice. I bought the bushings at Snyder's Auto.

I like the knurl idea. Will let you know how it works out.

The knurl fix worked very well.

I knurled both inside the shiny rear spring pivot housing and the outside of the bushing.

The cast pivot housing is hard material so it was difficult to get a good knurl.

Having the knurls made the pieces require a press fit as I could no longer slide them through by hand.

I used the Loctite 609 (tech support @ Henkle said this was the version to use for a press fit (638 if there is a larger gap)).

Thank you for the advice.

Dave
