88-A Platform Style-d3, Cross Member #5, V-Bracket

Post by slavalley »

I have a question about two V-shaped brackets that are riveted to the bottom side of cross member #5. What are they for?

They keep the spare tire in position.

Thank you Bob. That makes sense. Does it touch down on the rim or the tire?

Those are wheel stops (AA-1474). The wheel presses against the stops and act as anti-rattlers. See https://aafords.com/aa-chassis/aa-1400-carriers/#wcubuf

Once again, thank you Neil!

Anyone out there have a non-bent AA-1470-B rear hing bolt and nut assembly?

Finding a replacement will be difficult. Best to heat and straighten what you have.

Oh no! Anyone have the swing bolt for the AA-1470-B rear hinge or dimensions so I can have one made?

I just made my own using an eye bolt I got from McMaster-Carr. Welded the stop on it and turned it down, rusted it and it was good to go!
