Pulling Transmission

Post by David R. »

1930 with 4 speed. Engine is out. Front axle is out. As soon as new brake linings arrive I will begin reassembling front axle. Next I want to go through transmission. Do I just unbolt it from coupling shaft and slide forward? Any other transmission advice appreciated. What is most typically worn out on these?

You are on the right track. Unbolt that clamshell and pull it out.

The clamshell is back at the other end of coupling shaft: where it connects to torque tube.

Yes, remove the bolts from the front coupling shaft support and the 4-speed will move forward and out. Original setup has a gear bolted to the rear of the transmission which slides out of the coupling shaft. Hopefully your AA will have the pointed gear-to-transmission bolt and the thrust spring.
