Thinking of making 5 of these assemblies, anyone interested? Total would be $1500 each.

Hi Slavalley,

We should talk!

I have just made a full set of the six 88-A d3 platform cross members.

I just need to rivet on the brackets and rivet them to the side members.

Here are pictures of 3 of them (#1, #3, #6).

If you are interested, I could run a full set or just the #6 (back) one for you, if you need it.

Dave

Hi Dave,

Wow, this is great news! I would be very interested in the #6 cross member. Do you have a solution for the stamped AA-88141 reinforcement d2 bracket? Mine are pretty beat-up so I was also working to have those made.

Where are you sourcing your rivets from? I've looked everywhere for the 9/32" diameter round head rivets w/o luck.

Thanks for the reply!

Scott

would not take a lot to make your own rivets. Need a lathe and time... Seems like time is hanging around and looking for something to do..

HI Scott & Mac,

I do not have a solution for the AA-88141 in terms of a repro. I am going to reuse the ones I took off my original cross member that I used as a pattern to make the repro.

I can make the #6 cross member which would consist of the cross member, the inner shelf, and the 4 stake pockets for $350. They would not be riveted together. I would supply just the sheet metal parts.

If you are interested in this one or any of the other 5, let me know.

Regards,
Dave

If you are disassembling a beat up cross member and replacing it grind the back side of the rivets off and punch the old rivets out. Save and insert them in the new cross members and mig weld them back into place on the back side where they were ground off. 99% of folks wont notice that you did this and the heads match then. Did this on my front cross member and no one has yet to notice I did it that way.

For rivets I used this company: http://bigflatsrivet.com/

I have a 30 1/2 Platform I'd like to get the bed parts for, if these are the correct ones I'd be totally in for a set.

Hi mikeg,

The cross members I made are for the 88-A d3 platform bed. According to Neil's info on the forum, the d3 version is correct from mid-1928 to 2/1931.

Attached is a picture from the AA-forum showing an original 88-A d3 platform.

If you are interested in a set, please let me know. With the setup involved, it is much easier to make several at the same time.

Thanks,
Dave

Everyone, please note that AA-forum is this site. It is separate from my aafords.com site. The referenced image is at https://aafords.com/open-bodies/platfor ... tails/#fss
