Curious, my AA has an engine serial number that starts with AA, are these engines rare? What would it mean for value purposes if the frame number matched?

They are getting hard to come by but I wouldn't call them rare. If that serial number matches your frame you have what is called a "numbers matching" truck. Adds some value to it of course. The key is, is that engine a useable core....meaning it's not cracked. Cracked blocks can be repaired depending on the severity of the crack but the money you spend there will probably offset the increased value you will receive for a "numbers matching" truck.

It is worth the time and money to explore.

Trucks engines are suppose to start with AA. You appear to be lucky enough to possibly have the original engine. If you can check your frame serial number hopefully it's not worn away and you can prove you have a numbers matching truck. Good luck

Although there was a period where AA's carried a single A on the number boss.

Is there any "easy" way to check the number on the frame?

Gotta lift the cab as the number is on top of the frame roughly just forward of the A pillar. Nothing real easy about that

FYI - For the AA's the shields are not on the frame above the engine id.
