I was recently questioned about the capacity rating of my early 1929 AA truck (131.5" wb, single rear wheels, 3-speed trans, worm gear diff.). I had always thought that Ford's nominal load rating was 1-ton with the single rear wheels, and 1.5 ton for the dual rear wheels. Someone cited to me a reference from the Commercial Car Journal of December 20, 1927, that said the capacity was 1.5 ton for the single rear wheels, and 2.5 ton for the duals. Looking through some of my own references, I see that Ford did not make a big deal of the nominal load rating; the ads are more focused on wheelbase variations. (Perhaps weight capacity was more a function of tires and state regulations back then.) In any case, does anyone know of a definitive Ford-published reference for weight capacities of the various truck chassis for 1929?

I hauled 3 tons of crap to the landfill on my Early '30. It did have overload springs in the rear.

I was always told single axle with single wheel 1 1/2 ton. Dual wheels changes to 2 ton.

All Ford documentation I have seen rates the AA-chassis as 1-1/2 ton.

So,,,,, A '28 with spoke wheels is also a 1 1/2 ton??? I think I know why they changed to steel wheels!!!!
