1931 Long Running Board Questions

Hi,

I need some direction with my fender / shield / running board installation.

I have a 2/31 AA:

1. Does anyone have a picture of the long running boards for a 1931 that they would share? The ones I have look like not well made repros.

2. Does anyone have a pair of nice original long running boards for sale?

3. Would the long running boards ever have used without rear fenders?

4. Did the long running boards rest on top of the frame like the short ones for the car or were they just supported by the frame to running board shield support brackets (AA-5110) that are riveted to the frame.

5. A-16071-B (3/16" bead) anti-squeak material goes between the fender and fender shield. A-16071-C (1/8" bead) was used between the fender shield and running board shield. Was there any anti-squeak material between the fender and the running board? I could not find this info on the AAFords-FMAATC. https://aafords.com/aa-chassis/aa-16000-fenders/#rbdg

6. Was "on-frame anti-squeak material" used between the running board shield and the running board shield to frame support brackets (AA-5110)?
https://aafords.com/aa-chassis/aa-5000- ... -brackets/

I know that's a lot to follow, but you guys always have the answers!

Thanks,
Dave

answer to # 4 the splash shield does not go on the frame if you have reproduction shields you may have to cut the extra off unless the reproducers have corrected their product in the last 15 years

1. Does anyone have a picture of the long running boards for a 1931 that they would share? The ones I have look like not well made repros.

There is a drawing of AA-16458-B/59-B in the gallery at https://aafords.com/aa-chassis/aa-16000-fenders/#rb

2. Does anyone have a pair of nice original long running boards for sale?

Sorry, no

3. Would the long running boards ever have used without rear fenders?

I don’t know (not likely)

4. Did the long running boards rest on top of the frame like the short ones for the car or were they just supported by the frame to running board shield support brackets (AA-5110) that are riveted to the frame.

Long shields were not on the frame (only used the AA-5110 brackets)

5. A-16071-B (3/16" bead) anti-squeak material goes between the fender and fender shield. A-16071-C (1/8" bead) was used between the fender shield and running board shield. No anti-squeak between the fender and running board.

6. Was "on-frame anti-squeak material" used between the running board shield and the running board shield to frame support brackets (AA-5110)?
https://aafords.com/aa-chassis/aa-5000- ... -brackets/

I am fairly sure there was no anti-squeak used on the AA-5110 brackets.

FYI – on-frame webbing ended where the fender shield left the frame at the front body brackets (see https://aafords.com/aa-chassis/aa-16000-fenders/#fffsb)

Thank you very much!

For questions 1 & 2, I made a typo, I meant "Long Running Board Shield" (not Long Running Board)

1. Does anyone have a picture of the long running board shields for a 1931 that they would share?

2. Does anyone have a pair of nice original long running board shields for sale?

Thanks again,
Dave

Snyders sells new reproduction splash aprons they are good quality but as I said before you may have to cut about 1 1/4 inch the length of it so it will mount to the brackets on the frame and not on the frame .

Snyder's is out of them. They get them from Howells, but have been waiting for 2 years for a new order to be run.

I think I can make them, but I do not know what the top looks like, e.g. where all the holes are. That's why I am interested in a picture.
