horn mounting ??

Post by KimVanOrder »

So, is the horn supposed to be insulated at it's mount? Mine was, then shorted out and blew the fuse and left me stranded. :x Can it be that something in the horn is wired wrong? :? Any info?? Thanks...

The horn does not need to be insulated if it is an original horn.
The most likely cause for a need to insulate the horn is that the screw holding
the cover on is to long and contacting one of the brush holders.

Bob: Your correct! I looked it over today, and it is not an original. It was made, originally, with one wire from the motor winding being sandwiched between and then spot welded to make the ground connection to the frame. Then some one added a wire to ground ( connect ) it to the two wires from the harness. This causing the need to insulate it from the frame. So,,, I'll insulate it like it was, so it works, and call it all good..
This all started with it shorting out my first time out this yr... :( :(
Thanks for your reply..
