Hi All,

Looking for some guidance on tires.

I had mistakenly bought Firestone 650x20 truck tires and the dual rears touch each other at the bottom when paired.

The Firestone Truck tread 650x20's have a 6.5" width

The Firestone Truck tread 600x20 are 6.3" wide

They also make 600x20 Silvertown and U.S. Royal tires that are 6" wide.

My inclination is to go with the truck tread, but not sure if that will give enough clearance between the duals.

Not sure which to go with.

Your thoughts / recommendations are appreciated.

The 1931 rims are spaced differently so the tires don't touch.

I have not heard of any 600x20 tires which cause a problem with dual tires touching. However, I had not known the suppliers have different section widths. The Firestone tires appeal to me the most (looks more like original tread). The BF Goodrich would be my second choice.

FYI - double bend valve stems were used (not single bend). The d1-d3 wheel have less clearance for valve stems. The openings were lowered with the d4 wheel.

The d3 wheels look like the 1930 style but were used starting 1/31 with a +1/4" additional clearance. The d4 wheel had the same clearance and also had a reinforcing bead.

d3 – January 1931 thru April 1931 – The wheel offset was increased by 1/8″ (giving 1/4” additional distance between dual tires; also stamped with Budd part C-18596-H.

d4 – January 1931 – Reinforcing bead was stamped around the outside of the hub bolt holes (see notes gallery below); stamped with Budd part C-23596. This wheel had the same offset as d3. AA’s have been found with a mix of d3 and d4 wheels during the changeover time.

i have these and really like the look. Dont be like me though and only order 4 forgetting the spare tire lol. Unfortinately looks like they arent listed on Lucas tires website anymore unfortinately (they do list several options for 600-20 tires) when i called them they offered a discount on shipping if i could ship to a commercial address. maybe they just do a limited run of things?

I made the mistake of purchasing the 650x20 tires for my Model AA and I had to get a spacer made so the two rear tires did not touch. I was surprised at how much bigger the 650 is over the 600. I have dual fender mounts on my AA so after buying 8 tires, I was not bout to repurchase the 600's If I had to do it again, I would not get the 650's

Ford specified 6.00-20s all way around for duals and 6.50s on rear only for singles. I intend to run singles on mine. Looking for a good used 6.50-20 for a spare.

Actually, Ford specified 32x6 for the 1930-1932 AA-chassis when dual wheels were not used. I don't agree that a 6.50x20 is actually a 32x6. Tire manufactures put substitute tire sizes on tires.

Perhaps, but I would suppose 6.50-20 would be as close as you can come today to 32x6. I scrapped some old 32x6 tires, I should have compared them with the 6.50s.

I actually have some old tires with both sizes marked on the sidewalls. The 30X5 tires are also marked 6.00X20. The 32X6 are also marked 6.50X20.
