I'm rebuilding the rear axle on my '31, including removal and cleaning of the torque tube and driveline. The roller bearing (A-4645) near the speedometer gear appears "sloppy" in my hand, with the rollers all rattling in the race.
I have two questions for the group:
1) Is this slop in the roller bearing A-4645 normal and I don't need to replace it? At this time I can't find a new one.
2) What is the purpose of the additional grease fitting on the torque tube near this bearing? One fitting makes sense, but I can't tell why there are two.

Re: Drive line upper grease fittings and roller bearing
June 1930 Service Bulletins state, that a second fitting was added to aid in lubricating the universal joint through the front fitting. Before this, there was only the rear fitting, so the only way grease could get to the universal, was to pass through the bearing first.
Always one bad decision away from a good time.
