Front Crossmember and Head Torque

Post by legrandaa »

Hello fellow AA owners. What is the best way to remove the front cross member that the engine and radiator mount on? There are 6 rivets, 3 on each side, if I counted correctly, to be removed. What's the best way to accomplish this. I have another member to put back in its place. Thanks. BTW, what is the head bolt torque for the standard head? Thanks.

Drill through each rivet to allow it to collapse, and use a big punch to knock it out. If you can drill on the rivet head, you don't have to drill all the way through, just deep enough so you can knock the rivet head off with a chisel, then punch the remains through the hole.
