Tire size?

As the restoration goes on with my 1931 AA Iv'e found that I have 650-20 tires on the front and 600-20 tires on the back. What is prefirible to run on these trucks? Will it impact speed? Please let me know what you think.

Hello Phil,

For 1930 and 1931 Ford provided 6:00x20 tires (front and rear) for dual wheel trucks. Trucks with single rear wheels were provided with 6:00x20 front tires and 32x6 high pressure rear tires.

The 32x6 size terminology translates to 6:00x20. The six is the tire height (inside dimension). So 6x2=12 and 32-12=20 (the rim size). These 32x6 tires had more plies than the 6:00x20 tires supplied for dual wheel trucks. Consequently, the outside height is close to a 6:50x20 tire.

Using oversized tires on the front results in the tires hitting the brake rods! Using oversized tires on the rear might cause clearance problems between side walls.

Current parts vendors incorrectly list 6:50x20 as standard rear tires (including the companies which just sell tires). This results in front and rear tires of different tread design. I prefer using 6:00x20 tires and the same tread design for the front and rear.

I just got my new tires from Universal tire in Penn. all the venders were the same price for the tires, rim flaps , and tubes , but Universal was much lower on shipping here to Detroit , I bought the Denmans

Just mounted them the other night they look Great!!! , will post a pic on my pic site http://www.fotki.com/toolhawk tomorrow , MADE IN U.S.A. .I put the 6.50s on the rear and the 6.00 on the front . They have the same tread pattern.
