AA welled fender

Post by Tony G »

Hi Fellow AA'ers,
My 31 AA has a left fender mtd. spare tire bracket. Unfortunately the fender that it came with wasn't welled. As my fenders aren't even good enough to throw away I planned on buying new repro. Are the correct size wells for an AA even available?

The question is do you have the correct door for a wheel well spare?

The door for the left side fender spare wheel trucks have a indent in the door to allow thye door to open wide enough to get into the truck , the panel van type trucks have a different shape indent . This is a photo of the one on my dump truck . Neil Wilson added the measurements to the photo .

Bud
Did the 82-A cabs also use an indented door if equipped with a sidemount?

Thanks for the reply
That explains why I have never seen one on an 82-A although I thought I had seen pictures of them. So much for memory. Seems there is a lot to keep sorted out as I learn about these old trucks.

Thankyou for the info. I dont have the correct door at this time. Either I find one or do some serious fabricating or forget about the spare mount. I'd like to keep it and use it on the truck.I dont think the repro wells are correct for AA wheels so thats another hurtle.

Thanks again All,
TG

I was once told that the 32 fender well is the same as the AA

There's a Service Letter that addresses the dented door. In essence it says that the dented door is needed for 6.50 x 20 tires, but not needed for 6.00 x 20 tires. I'm at work and my Service Letters are at home. I know some models came exclusively with dented doors; on the other hand the 76B open cab never had a dented door. The well in the fender is shallower and wider than the passenger car version.

I suppose the best way to go for me is to put up a 6.00x20 in the bracket and see if the door opens fully. Thanks again for all who looked up and gave information.

My early 1930 Express will carry three spares. One underneath and one on each side of the bed.
