Rear axle seals for my 29 AA

Post by John Rochelle »

I am looking for rear inner axle seals for my 1929 AA fire truck. all the vendors I have contacted say there source has "dreid up". These are the seals that go inside the axle housing on a worm drive rear end.

Also any sugestions on how to install them would be helpfull.

Try Bert's Model A Center in Denver if you have not already done so (800-321-1931).

It would be of interest to have information regarding the installation if anyone has some. I would guess that it is the same procedure as for the A?

Hopefully this works to send along these pictures of a tool I made to install the rear axle seals in a '29 AA rear axle. I am working on restoring this truck and needed to get the seals in. Hunting around the shop, I found these bearing parts and a little grinding and cutting and they worked fine for putting in the two seals. These are the seals inside the tube of the worm drive rear end. I used NAPA # 16117 seals. The outside race drives in the seal and the inside race holds the parts together. What I used to drive them in was my cam bearing driver tool. In a half hour I had them both in. E-Mail me if you would be interested in using it and we can make some arrangements. Thanks
