Speedometer cable
Can someone tell me how long the speedo cable must be for AA truck?
Re: Speedometer cable
Robert,
I have one on backorder from Bratton's. Their catalog says 89" for 131"WB and 113" for 157"WB.

Re: Speedometer cable
Hello Robert,
Reproduction casings and shafts are not the same length as original. They are longer than original. So, they should work.
The lengths shown below, on the right, are from the 1940 Ford Chassis Parts Catalog.
AA-17261-AR – Casing (1928-30) 81”
AA-17261-C – Casing – AA131 (1930-31) 81.5”
AA-17261-D – Casing – AA157 (1930-31) 110.5”
AA-17262-A – Shaft (1928-30) 82.20”
AA-17262-C – Shaft – AA131 (1930-31) 82.00”
AA-17262-D – Shaft – AA157 (1930-31) 111.00”
Nine casings from 1928 through early 1930 AA trucks were checked for length. None were the same length, none were 81” long, and the lengths ranged from 80” to 82-1/2”.
If an original casing needs a new shaft, it can be made by a speedometer shop by providing them with the speedometer head, casing, and the speedometer driven gear with housing.

Re: Speedometer cable
Thanks to borh of you. I ordered from a different supplier a cable for my 31' 157WB and the one supplied is 86 inches ...way too short for my truck....I measured the casing that was on the truck and it is 104 inches. I know 104 inches attaches both ends with slack...I guess I will find a speedo shop and have a new cable made to fit my casing. Thanks for your help..Bob
