1929 AA

Post by acauto »

Hello, I would like to thank all who helped me with questions , and hard to find parts, you know who you are! I have another set of questions , my truck has a single rear wheel , is there a difference in front to rear tire size 400/450-20 front ? to 600/650- 20 rear? If so can the 600/650-20 tire be used on the front? The other question is , 1929 model a truck running boards and aprons different from a 1929 AA truck with short boards ? Thank you in advance sorry to be a pain ,Tony

Tonie,
The '28 through mid '30 A commercial running board is longer than the short or long '28 through mid '30 AA running board. A picture is attached of the '29 through mid '30 AA boards. Note the bracket at the rear (top of picture). The short AA aprons are shorter than the A aprons.

Note that the A boards and aprons will bolt to an AA. But, they extent back of the cab and there is really not enough support at the rear of the A board to allow much weight.

For '28/'29, original tires were 30x5 (front) and 32x6 (rear). This translates to 5:00x20 and 6:00x20. The front and rear wheels are the same. So, the 20" tires work on the front or rear. I would not recommend using a 6:50x20 on the front due to the clearance between the tire and fender. If you use a tire larger than 5:00x20 on the front, the tire will hit the brake rod unless you use a longer wheel stop to limit the turning radius.
