Early 1930 AA radiator shell
The shell from my Early 1930 AA is missing. My truck does have a four core radiator. My question is there any difference, besides plating, between it and a 1929 A car shell? I know the difference between the 1928 and 1929 is the area around the crank hole.

Re: Early 1930 AA radiator shell
An early '30 AA would have the 82-A cab and related sheet metal. This includes the model A size radiator. The April Service Bulletin has a paragraph about a 4-row flat tube radiator (AA-8005-AR) which are provided with "trucks recently built". This is an A size radiator and would use the '29 style A commercial radiator shell (painted black). It states that "the AA-8005-AR radiator is interchangeable with the former type radiator.
Radiator AA-8005-B is also a 4-row flat tube radiator which is used with the 82-B cab. This radiator requires the AA-8205 radiator shell since the corresponding '30/'31 A shell will not fit the AA-8005-B radiator.

Re: Early 1930 AA radiator shell
Thanks for the info, Neil,
I have an extra shell with remnants of chrome on it in very sad shape. I wonder if the measurements about width/height are known?
I could measure and post what I have.

Re: Early 1930 AA radiator shell
FYI - The plated '29 radiator shell is the same measurements as the non plated '29 shell.

Since all I have is the shell, how do I tell what year it is...Neil Wilson wrote:FYI - The plated '29 radiator shell is the same measurements as the non plated '29 shell.

Re: Early 1930 AA radiator shell
Pictures beat tons of words and measurements. Pictures with measurements are even better.

Re: Early 1930 AA radiator shell
The radiator pictured above is the '28 to early '29 style (as per the Judging Standards). The stamping around the crank hole cover is slightly different from the later style (see page 15-5). This would mean that the headlight wire holes are smaller since the '28 A/AA's have only two wires to the headlights.
The '28 shell will fit the '28 to mid '30 AA radiator but the wire holes are a problem.
