does anybody know about hand wipers
I have one on my truck and need to remove because I restoring the truck. Does anybody know were I can find new rubber or wiper blade.
Re: does anybody know about hand wipers
Lang's at www.modeltford.com sells just the rubber(8 inch) for $4.95. It's their part #7801BL. Their toll free line is 1-800-872-7871. This hand wiper was a carry over from the T to the A. The WWII Jeep had one on the passenger side; except for the lack of plating on the knob it appears to be the same. Best, Ed

Re: does anybody know about hand wipers
From the picture, it looks like the T part is the complete wiper blade (includes both the metal and two strips of rubber). I will order one just to compare it to an original blade. It would be great to find a source for just the rubber to put into an original blade.

Lookin' forward to your report Neil. I once ordered nos wiper rubber for my '39 buick roadmaster and the rubber crumbled in my fingers. Expensive lesson there.

Re: does anybody know about hand wipers
FYI
My three original hand wiper blades all have two pieces of rubber. Two have identical metal. The third blade has metal which is slightly wider (from top to the rubber edge). All three are 8" long.
Judging Standards Info:
Suppliers - Trico and Williams (Trico has name and patent dates)
two layers of 1/32" thick black or red rubber (1/16” thick and 9/16” wide per Doug Clayton)
black enamel finish
nickel plated tubular rivet (7/32" head)
8" blade for passenger cars
Being modified in JS per Doug Clayton:
JS – closed cab arm - 7-3/4" currently – to be changed to 5-5/8”
JS – closed cab wiper blade – 11” currently – to be changed to 8”
JS – open vehicle - 6-1/2" currently – to be changed to 6-3/8”
Also, the engineering drawing calls for a 4-1/2” handle (not 4-5/8” as in my attached picture)

Re: does anybody know about hand wipers
Here is a picture of the 8" long wiper blade from Langs. It is a T part.
The metal holder has a grove stamping which runs the length of the blade on each side. For the 82-A closed cab, the original metal holder (see picture above) does not have this grove. I have been told that the Ford engineering specifications call for two 8" long, 9/16" wide, and 1/16" thick rubber strips. So, in my opinion, the blade assembly parts (metal and rubber) are not correct as an original.
However, with modification it is usable if you are not trying to do an original, assembly line type of restoration. I installed the blade on one of my 82-A closed cabs. The 3/4" wide rubber strips are too wide to allow the hand wiper to work correctly. I spread opened the metal holder enough so that the rubber would slide out and then cut the rubber strips down to 9/16" wide (original specifications). This allowed the hand wiper to work correctly when installed.
Langs didn't have the nickle plated tube rivet for installing the blade on the wiper. So, I need to find a correct rivet.
It would be great to find just the rubber so that an original blade holder could be restored. I guess the place to start is the hardware store.
What say you?
