Looking for skid strips for a 1929 platform bed
Does anyone have any original skid strips for the '29 platform bed? I need to find 3 or 4 of them. Just wanted to check before I ordered replacements from Horkey's.

Boomer,
do you have the plates that go ontop of the wood. Metal plates under u-bolts.

Gunmetal,
I do have the series of metal plates that are on the top surface of the skid rails. If I remember correctly there are 6 or 7 on each rail. I am looking for the skid strips that go on top of the platform bed wood.

Boomer,
If e-mail me and give me your address I can send you a piece of one. So you know what they look like.

Gunmetal,
Four of my original skid strips are useable but four of them are too heavily rusted to use. I appreciate the offer, though!

Hello Boomer,
Please provide details about "Horkey's"? I have not heard of this supplier before.

Neil,
The skid strips won't be as close to the Ford originals as I would like, but it is looking like my only option to get the bed done.
Here is Horkeys homepage:

Thanks Boomer,
I was hoping that you have found a source for correct original 88-A platform skid strips.

Gunmetal,
I haven't ordered them yet as I am still hoping to find the original ones I need. To the educated eye the difference will probably be obvious.

Re: Looking for skid strips for a 1929 platform bed
I looked at the pictures of the skid strips on their web site. They don't look like the originals. They look like the same design as I found at "Mar-K" (see info. below).
The "Mar-K" price is very good (in my opinion). I got them to send me a 1' sample and it is not like the original (wrong cross section and metal gauge). It is close to the '31 skid strip design. I would not try to use some originals and some repros. on the same platform as it will be obvious in the difference.

Mar-K 405-721-7945 WWW.mar-k.com OK City – designed for GMC (not Ford).
As of 5/20/10:
88-A strips 1-1/2” wide x 97” long; eleven 5/16 carriage bolt holes; 18 gauge; $10.00 each; $8.95 handling; shipping free on 5/20/10 (maybe not currently).
Longer skid strips as special order (requires form specifying carriage bolt hole location – 1/4 or 5/16) – Example – 185-A (AA157) 130-9/16” long - $25 setup + $14 per strip – must ship via freight (over 108” long and that is over $100.00). Note that the 185-B skid strips are 133-1/8” long.

Re: Looking for skid strips for a 1929 platform bed
I have 5 or 6 good strips from a 1930 model aa stake bed - 8 foot long. 2 were damaged beyond repair but the others were very salvagable. I am looking for the rear locking stakes on my bed - any chance you have any??

Re: Looking for skid strips for a 1929 platform bed
Sorry, I wish I had some stakes for you. I assume the skid strip hole pattern is different between the 1928/29 and the 30/31 beds, but that is just my uneducated guess. Does anyone have a quick answer to that?

Boomer,
I have been looking for you for skid strips, no luck on my end. could you tell me what size carriage bolt are used on the skid strips. The size round washers are. Please and thank you.
The skid strips I found were from Midwest Early Ford (Email MidwestEFS@core.com or 1-800-543-5035 there location is Springfield, OH . There on page 164 in there parts book.
U-8312605-P (Plain Steel) 15.00 each.
U-8312605-SS (Polished Stainless) 22.00 each.
These are 10 foot long with no holes punch in them.

My AA is an early 30 and has the 28/29 cab. I assume the bed would also be 28/29?
