I was looking at my April 1929 AA. It still has the engine splash aprons with the original mounting hardware (bolts, nuts, and cotters). So, it must be this combination was used into 1929.

Is there a difference in the bolt design for early 1928? Anyone know.

Here is a link to a post I made on Fordbarn regarding the splash pan bolts that were still on my May 29, it may shed some light on the subject.

The need a good cleaning and you are welcome to them.

I think he wants the bolts.
Do your aprons fit late '30 or '31's?
I could use a pair..

SOME INFORMATION ON ENGINE PAN MOUNTING HARDWARE

January 1, 1928 Price List of Part lists the following hardware for installing the engine splash shields:
A-20553 - 1/4-28 S.A.E. x 9/16 sq. hd. bolt (w/ hole) - most likely wrong (should be 1/2" hex. head)
A-21666 - 1/4-20 S.A.E. (3/16 x 1/2) sq. nut - must be wrong (should be 1/4-28)
A-23515 - 1/16 x 1/2 cotter pin

June 15, 1930 Price List of Part lists the following hardware for installing the engine splash shields:
A-20534-S1 - 1/4-28 x 1/2 hex. head bolt
A-21666 - 1/4-28 S.A.E. (3/16 x 1/2) sq. nut
A-22150-S1 - 1/4 (3/64 x 29/64) lock washer

April 1929 AA1356549 has:
A-20553 - 1/4-28 S.A.E. x 1/2 hex. hd. bolt (w/cotter hole)
A-21666 - 1/4-28 S.A.E. (3/16 x 1/2) sq. nut
A-23515 - 1/16 x 1/2 cotter pin

My conclusions:
The few original engine pan bolts/nuts that I have seen are fine threaded (1/4-28). The Judging Standards states that 1/4-28 hex. head bolts were used. I believe that bolt A-20553 should be a 1/2" hex. head as found on my April 1929 AA1356549. I believe that nut A-21666 should be 1/4-28 as shown in the June 15, 1930 Price List of Part. So, the 1928 thru mid 1929 engine pan hardware should be:

A-20553 - 1/4-28 S.A.E. x 1/2 hex. hd. bolt (w/cotter hole)
A-21666 - 1/4-28 S.A.E. (3/16 x 1/2) sq. nut
A-23515 - 1/16 x 1/2 cotter pin

The bolt and nut shown above have course threads. I don't think that this is for the engine pan.
