WANTED: 1928 Model AA Lug Nuts

Post by lookin-backtexas »

I am looking for some 1928 Model AA Lug Nuts used with the AA wire wheels. They had a 15/16" hex and looked like a top hat (see the two versions on the left in the photo below). The first design was taller and a shorter second design started in mid '28. I have plenty of the later style acorn nuts (1-1/8" hex) shown on the right in the photo but would like to find some of the 15/16" hex (top hat style) ones. If you have one or 23, I'm interested if the price is right.
Thanks,
Fred

FYI - In the above photo, the third wheel nut from the left is for September 1928 thru Feb. 1929. It came only as right hand threads (like the two wheel nuts on the left). So, depending on the month of a 1928 AA, one of the three wheel nuts on the left would have been used. The right wheel nut was used starting in Feb. 1929 and came in both right and left hand threads.

You can check out http://aafordscom.ipage.com/aafords/aa- ... aa-wheels/ for more information.
Regards, Neil Wilson

Hey lookin-backtexas, just curious, do you have the early crank/lug wrench for the "AR" early style lug nuts?

I do have one in my collection of Model A & AA cranks. It's the only one I've ever come across, I would not want to break up the collection, not yet anyway. I'll let you know if I decide to sell it, I'm sure you would give it a good home.

How many different types of AA hand cranks were there?

There were three different AA hand cranks. Here's an illustration thanks to Neil Wilson.

I have at least four different AA hand cranks so I wonder if there were cranks made by outside sources.

I'm not sure it's worth $85 delivered. I'll find one out there somewhere.
Thanks,

Too bad the seller of the AA crank on ebay does not know the correct year application and wrote the wrong information. How typical for ebay!
Great illustration of the different AA cranks. Counting minor differences, it looks like there may be 7 different.
