1929 Drum Tail Light Bakelite Socket
I know I am looking for unobtanium but maybe someone out there has one. I need to restore the original drum tail light on my 29' and need a bakelite socket. If anyone has one or knows where I could get one please let me know. Thanks.

Bryan,
The vendors have them, the parts to restore these lamps are high priced, and so are used lamps, to restore the one that came on my truck the parts exceed the cost of the complete lamps that are available at the vendors. http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/3589

The parts and complete taillights are made by A-L in Connecticut they make a lot of parts to the Ford blueprints, --- most top restorers use them as they are the closest to original.

Thanks Brian. As my tail light is original I was hoping to find an original socket but I ordered a replacement from Snyders. And yes a bit pricey at $45.
Mine was rusted in so I soaked it in pb blaster. There is a small pin on the the back and at the top of the socket that needs to be pushed down in order to turn the socket. I am not sure on how to remove the socket without bending or damaging the post connection to the license plate light.Stakebed wrote:^^^ That and whats the easiest way to replace one?

Wait until you get the replacement unit. Take a look at it and it should be clear on what you need to do to remove the bad socket. I've done it a couple of times but it's been a while so I'm not sure I can remember well enough to explain it.

When installing the new socket it must be rotated into place. The tab will slip into place while doing this, no need to remove the rivet.
