Warfords are three speed. Underdrive, Direct, and Overdrive.

It doesn't make any difference. They are different but one for a 3 speed will work with a 4 speed with the right combination of parts.

so the one listed was originally built for the 28/29 three speed ? my early 29 has been modified with 30/31 four speed, front and rear axles.

Are you sure you don't have an early 1930, they used the same
sheet metal as the 28-29 till mid 30. Does the cross member over
the rear axle have a hump in it or is it flat.

I would say it does make a difference on what parts the one for sale has to what application one would want to use it for.

The Warford in the ad is a '28/'29 unit. Since the ad on Craigslist indicates it is an "A" overdrive, then it may have "A" front and rear u-joints (but this is not specified). To install a '28/'29 Warford (as shown in the ad) behind an AA with a three speed requires the "A" front and "AA" rear u-joints. To install this Warford behind a four-speed requires adapter parts (including the three parts shown below the Warford + a special u-joint for the 4-speed).

AAholic,
Sorry, I don't know the special u-joint part number and I don't have one to sell.
