Hi Folks,

I guess I'm newby and this is my first post to the AA board.

I'm looking for a front universal joint cover for my AA truck – this is the cover that bolts to the transmission. I also need the coupling shaft tube. That's all I need for now, but I'll probably need a few hundred more parts as I get dirtier…

I may have an NOS one that is complete.

The shaft tube can be made up at a muffler shop. Not original but functional.

The pictures you posted are not for an AA. You don't say what you have. Attached is a picture of the coupling shaft setup for an AA with a 4-speed transmission.

I don't know about whether or not this an AA part. I do know that I pulled it out of AA truck. It has two universal joints - one at the transmission and one at the rear of the coupling shaft. I'll try to post some photos showing more of the assembly.

With a front u-joint maybe it's a service replacement coupling shaft,
but the cover doesn't look correct for that either.

Here's a photo with more detail of my coupling shaft. Is it an AA or not?

In passing, the front ujoint cover was chewed up long ago when the bolts connecting to the tranny got loose. The owner then got out his welding kit and welded the damage. However he didn't use safety wire (that's why bolt heads have holes in them...) and it got chewed up again. Must have made a heckuva racket.

You have the "AA" Service Replacement coupling shaft as per the July 1932 Service Bulletins. Bob C had posted a copy of this a few replies earlier. These were released so you didn't have to pull the engine/trans assembly or move the rear axle/torque tube assembly back to pull a transmission, change a clutch, or replace a u-joint.

Is the bolt pattern for the flanged front cover you're looking for about 4 3/4"? The tube almost looks useable. Maybe just weld a short piece on the back end. A felt goes in the end caps to help keep the grease inside.

Should you need the yokes for the front u-joint I have them along with the bolts that hold the 2 parts together, I also have the u-joint cross that has some wear.

Kind of hard to keep everything lubed and the dirt out if it's open.

most modern trucks are open drive.
