locked up rusty transmission

Post by sr230mike »

Hi all working along to get my AA driving and found this. It will only go in reverse due to rust. How can I fix this? Can I pour this stuff in it or will it migrate forward or back and cause other damage?

Remove the lid from it. Disassemble, clean, reassemble.

If the gears are that rusty the bearing probably aren't much better. I would pull the
trans and disassemble it. You might get more response if you put this in the discussion forum.

Give it a try!! If your worried about it getting thru to the clutch, I would not worry too much. Can't hurt anything.. Fill it up, and rotate things around. Read instructions. how long to soak is key. Longer the better...

Let us know how it goes. If all fails, revert to what the other guys said. Take it out and take it apart.. Good luck.

Why not just replace the transmission (there are plenty of them out there)?
