I also need a speedo grommet for my early '28 truck frame and am considering part number 9600K219 from McMaster-Carr. Take a look, it is for 3/16 thick material (good) but for a 1-3/8" diameter hole. My frame crossmember hole is 1-1/8" diameter. So I'm thinking that since you have to split the grommet for installation anyway, you can remove a little extra material at the split to allow it to fit the smaller hole.

That sounds like a good way to go Rambler

Thanks, I will try that. I make several parts for the Model and AA trucks. This would be to costly to make for the number of them that would be sold. Thanks

Not sure that will work. The 'wall' from the cable to the frame will not be reduced doing that. You need to cut material out of the groove going around the grommet. But! Give it a try and let us know. That is how we learn.. good luck..

Success! I modified the McMaster-Carr grommet mentioned above and have attached pictures of the results. I didn't try it with a speedo cable, but when installed, the internal diameter of the grommet reduces to about 3/4". Since the early cable is about 7/16" diameter I'm optimistic that it will assemble OK. I used a screwdriver to help push the grommet into the hole. You can adjust the dimensions shown a little bit if you want a little more loose.

That looks great, I will be ordering 3 of these so I can make an extra set. I have one new one as a pattern. Thanks
