Forum Instructions

Evenin' folks. New guy question: are operator instructions for this forum available? I wasted an hour last night, ultimately failing to post a reply to a question. My hobbies include old trucks. My hobbies do not include computers and forums. It's probably some small thing keeping me from posting a reply, that I would know if I used forums more often. And what explains all the symbols (Smilies excluded) that vibrate or change, . . . or not?
Will someone please point me toward the instructions? Many thanks. JPB.

Just hit the "post reply" button at the bottom of the thread or the "quote" button if you want to reference what your replying to and start typing. Then hit the submit button.

Try to reply to this comment.

Just point the mouse pointer at the face and it will tell what it represents.

Mac is right...if you are not logged in you can't post replies etc. Most of us log in once and stay logged in so I for one overlooked that point.

Try logging in.

You all helped me with that one, and no Administrators knocked on my door in the dark of the night for being in the wrong slot, so I'm going to try again.
How do I make the automatic login work? I don't want to stay logged in all the time but would like to be automatically logged in as the little check box promises. I've tried every trick I can think of, but no luck yet.
Finally, how or where does one address such a question to an Administrator?
Thanks again.

Just check the box "Log me on automatically each visit", when you go to the forum page you will be logged in automatically, if you leave the forum, like close your browser or navigate to another website you won't be logged into the forum at that point.

That's what I've been doing. A bunch of times. And it isn't working for me.
When I leave, I logout. When I come in the next time, no automatic login.

Are you actually clicking the "log out" button? If so, that is the problem. When you are done viewing the forum, just close your browser or move on to a different website.

Never intended for this to become a big deal.
I'm on a Mac, using Safari.
Last night, I clicked the automatic box when logging in.
When done, I just closed the window without logging out.
Next visit - just now - no automatic login.

I'm happy to drop it.
I have a new truck and I'll have plenty of "real" questions about it
soon.

Just to put a period on this, so I can move on to a real truck, after saying last night that the automatic login hadn't worked after several tries, it started working! So, now on to some rusty iron. Pictures to follow.

Glad to hear it is working. The common thread I have noticed when this feature doesn't work as intended is due to 3rd party cooking blocking software, or a security setting in the web browser preventing the cookie from being stored. in order for the "remember me" box to function, the forum sends your computer a small file called a "cookie" if that file is blocked or cleared out it prevents the auto-login from working.
